Lead Gemologist and Laboratory Director, Laboratoire Gem Quebec

Pierre Lafrance is the lead gemologist and laboratory director at Laboratoire Gem Quebec, an independent gemological laboratory based in Laval, Quebec, Canada. A Graduate Gemologist (GG) from the prestigious Gemological Institute of America and a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (FGA), he brings over 40 years of passion and technical rigor to the science of gemology.

At Laboratoire Gem Quebec, Pierre personally oversees every gemstone certification and authentication. The laboratory employs Raman spectroscopy, LA-ICP-MS spectrometry, and advanced spectral imaging to distinguish natural gemstones from synthetics and detect treatments. This scientific approach positions Laboratoire Gem Quebec among the rare independent laboratories in Canada offering this level of instrumental analysis.

His vision of gemology extends well beyond the walls of the microscope. Pierre has traveled to some of the most remote mining centers across the globe, combining rigorous scientific analysis with firsthand experience in mineral extraction. This field expertise gives him a unique understanding of crystal formation and the complex realities of the global colored gemstone market.

Pierre upholds a consistent standard of excellence. His approach guarantees every client an impartial evaluation based on the strictest international standards in gemstone identification and grading.
